Simone Miccichè

Biography

Simone Micchicè was trained in Bologna, where he earned his diploma in Painting at the F. Arcangeli Art High School in 2008. He continued his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence, graduating in 2013 in Painting and Drawing with highest honors under the supervision of Prof. Ubaldo Bisi. In 2009, he further expanded his education by attending a mural painting course at the University of Lleida, Spain, an experience that brought him closer to large-scale practices and to a direct dialogue with public space.
Alongside his artistic practice, Micchicè has developed a strong commitment to education and cultural work. Since 2015 he has been teaching Art History and Graphic Disciplines at ISICAST in Castiglione dei Pepoli, and since the academic year 2022/23 he has been a lecturer in Painting Disciplines at the F. Arcangeli Art High School in Bologna. In 2012, he founded Officina15, a cultural association based in the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines, aimed at promoting contemporary art and shared creative projects within the local community.
His research often unfolds through collective projects and international collaborations. In 2013 he conceived the event Crime City Comics in collaboration with Sergio Bonelli Editore. Between 2018 and 2019 he initiated Ondate / Waves, a project developed with Centotto Gallery in Brooklyn, which also led to exhibitions in Berlin. These experiences have contributed to shaping a practice open to dialogue between painting, narration and visual experimentation.
Micchicè’s career has been marked by significant awards and recognitions. In 2025 he won both the Luigi Candiani Prize and the YICCA Prize 2024/25, and was also a finalist for the Prisma Prize and the WAO Prize. In 2023 he won the WAO Prize (6th edition), after being shortlisted for several major national and international awards, including Combat Prize, Exibart Prize and Arte Laguna Prize. In 2024 he also served on the jury of the WAO Prize, confirming his acknowledged role within the contemporary art system.
Through an ever-evolving pictorial research combined with a strong educational and project-based commitment, Simone Micchicè develops a coherent and dynamic artistic path that connects local roots with an international dimension, individual practice with shared work.
