Christian Ecker

Biography

Christian Ecker was born in Salzburg in 1961 and began his artistic journey with training as a lithographer in 1976. Since 1990, he has worked as a freelance artist, building a diverse and accomplished career. His talent and dedication have been recognized through numerous grants and residencies, starting with a foreign scholarship for visual arts in Krakow, Poland, in 1992. The following year, he received a studio grant from the State of Salzburg, which allowed him to work in Saarbrücken, Germany.
In 1994, Ecker participated in the 3rd Painters’ Symposium at the Alpinzentrum Rudolfshütte, and in 1995, another studio grant took him to Budapest, Hungary. In 1999, he worked in the guest studio at the Academy of Arts in Vilnius, Lithuania, and in 2000, he joined the Painters’ Symposium SilvrettAtelier. From 2001 to 2012, he served as the head of the Drawing – Painting – Object Class during the Hollersbach Painters’ Weeks, fostering creativity and collaboration among participants.
Ecker’s career continued to evolve with a foreign scholarship for visual arts in Frankfurt, Germany, in 2009. In 2015, he pursued specialized training in photography at Fotohof Salzburg, followed in 2017 by an advanced course in storytelling photography at the same institution. That same year, he participated in the Kon.Klave 4 Artists’ Symposium in Saalbach, Austria, and received an Artist-in-Residence scholarship in New York.
In 2020, Ecker was awarded the KEP Work Scholarship by the State of Salzburg, and in 2021, he worked in the guest studio in Gmünd, Carinthia. Throughout his career, Christian Ecker has demonstrated a relentless dedication to artistic exploration and a commitment to fostering creative dialogue across mediums and disciplines.
