Domenico Asmone

Biography

Domenico Asmone was born in Bologna in 1963, of Calabrian origin, has lived in Pistoia since 1969. Self-taught, he has been painting since the 1980s, beginning to participate in extemporaneous competitions in the late 1990s, immediately gaining success and recognition.
In 2000 he began his research on color, studying it independently on the basis of Itten’s treatise. His works, free compositional subjects of chromatic gestures, investigate the perceptive results of the observer stimulated by chromatic juxtapositions, contrasts, more or less coagulated stratifications of color. Freedom of execution goes hand in hand with compositional rigor and balance of forms. His artistic activity is expressed through drawings, paintings and ceramics. Ceramics offers an opportunity to bring out the creative power of color with even greater incisiveness, exploiting the three-dimensionality of sculpture. In 2023 he began the new series of “Chromatic Landscapes,” in which he combines chromatic gestures with the figural representation of emotionally chosen urban places and subjects.
Over thirty solo exhibitions. Recent solo show at Serart Gallery in Reggio Calabria (2023) and solo shows at Matalon Foundation Museum in Milan: “Milan and its colors” (2023) and “Color owns me” (2022); “Logica del colore” Gulli Arte (Savona – 2022), “Estetica dell’emozione” solo show BAF of Bergamo with Colonna Arte Contemporanea of Appiano Gentile (CO) in 2020 and those promoted by the City of Pistoia in November 2016, by Galleria del Leoncino in 2017 as part of the events sponsored by the City of Pistoia for Pistoia Capitale della Cultura Italiana 2017 and by the City of Gubbio (PG) at Palazzo Bargello – Museo della Balestra in 2018.
