Martin Lechner
Biography
Martin Lechner was born in Kempten in 1970 to parents from the Czech Republic.
With a technical profession in the background, he increasingly devoted himself to music, which led him through many years of working as a DJ to singing with a focus on soul and jazz, and finally to the founding of the “Martin Lechner Band”.
His musical affinity for jazz and characteristic improvisation is closely linked to another sensibility, as he now realizes himself: looking at abstract works of art triggers in him a feeling of deep connection, and also the surprising impulse to test himself in them. He is convinced that complex aspects and experiences in life led to the emergence of his aesthetic sensibility and the need to express himself first musically, but later also visually.
This growing awareness and the challenge of creating his own images ultimately led to a daily exploration of his creativity. In doing so, he creates images that he experiences as projections of his inner processes and insights on the canvas. The perception of dichotomy is a constant in his life and as such forms the basis of his creative work. For the realization that every reaction follows an action or decision, no matter how small, is something he experiences in equal measure when making his paintings. It is not unusual for him to be seized by ambivalent thoughts about the path he is taking with his brushstroke: How can he create the painting in such a way that he does justice to his own demands on himself and at the same time express the inner cause? After intensive reflection, as in life itself, he inevitably lets go and a previously unseen path leads him to his goal. This dichotomy thus becomes the aesthetic constant of his abstract works, whereby he simultaneously strives for the aspect of balance within the picture: similar to those ambivalent feelings that lead to change and thus to a new balance in the course of human existence, the dichotomy in the process provokes and promotes the harmony of his paintings.
