Michele Lombardelli
Biography
Michele Lombardelli (Cremona, 1968) is an artist and musician whose work navigates seamlessly across painting, ceramics, photography and music. His artist books and works have been showcased in prestigious institutions, including the Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna in Rome, Casa del Mantegna in Mantua, Musée Cantonal Des Beaux Arts in Lausanne, Museo MA*GA in Gallarate, and La Triennale in Milan.
In the music field, he co-founded the noise duo Untitled Noise with Luca Scarabelli, releasing their first LP under the Die Schachtel label. He also collaborates actively with artists such as Lino Capra Vaccina and Jacopo Benassi.
Lombardelli’s painting moves away from the traditional concerns of modernist and avant-garde abstraction, rejecting the dualisms that have long defined it, such as synthesis-analysis, abstraction-representation, and two-dimensionality. His work explores abstract painting free from the concept of synthesis, photography that reduces the semantic load of the image, and monolithic sound that teeters on the edge of meaning.
Central to Lombardelli’s work is an interest in the semantic ambiguity of languages, emphasizing their enigmatic nature and the constant shifts in communicative reliability. His art opens up a linguistic dimension that embraces “everything and nothing,” allowing the signifier to take center stage and transcending the traditional boundaries of visual and sound art.
